Why the Off-Duty Bob Is the Cut of the Season

I recently spoke to HELLO! about the bob that Taylor Swift and Suki Waterhouse are both embracing this autumn, and I’m calling it the off-duty bob.
Sitting at the longer end of the bob family, the off-duty bob tends to skim the shoulders rather than sitting above them. It still has that stronger, squarer feeling through the perimeter that gives a bob its fullness, but everything else feels much more relaxed.
For me, that’s exactly why this cut feels so current.
We still want beautiful, healthy, expensive-looking hair, but that doesn’t mean it needs to look like we’ve spent hours styling it. The off-duty bob has softness, movement and a slightly undone, lived-in quality.
I think of it as the more relaxed, grown-out sister of the boyfriend bob. A little natural texture, a soft bend or even a slightly imperfect finish can actually make this cut look better.
Taylor and Suki show how versatile the look can be, and I think we’re going to see much more of this effortless approach to bobs throughout the season.
