Grey blending is one of the most requested colour services I’m seeing right now, and it’s easy to understand why. More and more clients are looking for a softer, more natural approach to managing greys without the commitment of full coverage.

Grey blending is the colouring technique of diffusing natural grey or silver hair into the rest of your hair colour. Rather than fully covering grey hairs, it subtly integrates them to create a more seamless result.

For me, the beauty of grey blending is in the finish. It gives a natural, dimensional look. It’s not a single colour, nor is it full coverage, and it’s completely unique to each client depending on their natural tones and how their greys sit.

Who Is Grey Blending Best For

Grey blending works best when there is already a noticeable amount of natural grey coming through. I usually recommend it if around 20 to 60 percent of your hair is or would now be grey.

It’s especially suited to anyone looking to move away from frequent root touch ups. If you’re not quite ready to go fully grey but want something softer and more low maintenance, it offers the perfect middle ground.

One of the biggest advantages is reduced upkeep. Appointments can move to every 8 to 12 weeks rather than every 4 to 6. Because the colour is diffused, regrowth appears much softer and less noticeable over time.

It’s also a much kinder approach to the hair. By avoiding heavy, full coverage colour, you’re maintaining more of your hair’s natural condition and shine.
